Dr. Mary Beth Phelan is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine and Director of Ultrasound Education in the Department of Emergency Medicine and an affiliate faculty member of the Injury Research Center at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Phelan's areas of interest include the health consequences of intimate partner violence, injury prevention, and intimate partner violence education for health care providers, as well as the advancement of emergency ultrasound education. Dr. Phelan has completed an emergency medicine fellowship. She has contributed to the advancement of emergency ultrasound education through workshops, presentations, lectures, and peer-reviewed journal publications. Her most recent interest is in the use of simulation in resident education, especially with respect to emergency medicine ultrasound education and evaluation.
Dr. Phelan has collaborated with researchers to determine the impact of intimate partner violence on women and men seeking emergency medical treatment. In addition to local, regional, and national presentations and peer-reviewed journal articles on the topic of intimate partner violence, she has co-authored the book ‘Domestic Violence Screening in Medical and Mental Healthcare Settings’, Springer, 2004.
